Inside the Huddle of the Pitt hoop basketball team is informational, knowledgeable, and energetic.

During the Huddle, the basketball team claps in a rhythm and gets loud and hyped, getting ready for the game. They show energy, intensity, and excitement as they repeat, “yop” with the rhythm of their claps. They pause for the moment to let the coach say what he has to say, and players pitch in something they have to say. What the coach will tell the players is to come out with energy, remind them what to do during the plays, and be prepared for what the coach analyzed about the other team to outplay their game plans. Players will discuss matchups and positionings on certain sets. As the game is about to begin and the huddle is ending, the team and coaches will put their hands together and say “Pitt 3 family 6, 1 2 3 Pitt, 4 5 6 Family” as they are entering the game.

During the game, the team will come out and play their hardest and put in the most effort they can to contribute to helping the team win. Win or lose, the team keeps their heads up, their energy high, and shows sportsmanship when the game is over.

Stranger Things And The Mystery Of It’s Popularity

Published

on

The American Television show Stranger Things is a Netflix original science fiction horror series created by Matt and Ross Duffer, with its very first season being launched in July 2016. The show first hit a major spike in popularity after the first season concluded and before the release of the second season. This slope to popularity eventually led to becoming one of Netflix’s most iconic and well recognized shows.

So, the question is: What’s the big deal? Why do so many people, young teens and adults alike, find this series so appealing?

Sophomore Nazaneen Ahmadi commented on this when questioned, “I like horror stuff…and the characters.” She said. “It’s interesting, people like that stuff.” Her response reflects a common opinion among fans: the show blends suspense, drama, and well-written character development.

Another Sophomore, Leahna Burks believes the appeal comes from familiarity, “I think it’s nostalgic for older people, and it’s relatable for teens.” She said.

The series is widely recognized for its classic 80’s vibes, and revolves around a group of young friends set in the 1980’s who encounter supernatural forces and personal challenges that they overcome. This mix of creepy vibes, romance, and teen drama creates an attraction to horror fanatics and coming of age fans.

Creating a series that can speak for both older and new generations isn’t an easy task. Most teen shows and films alike tend to exaggerate the true teenage experience. Stranger things finds a perfect balance between maturity, comedy, and representation that isn’t overwhelming or unrealistic.

Characters like Will Byers and Robin Buckley speak for those who face repression of their identity. Meanwhile, the character Lucas Sinclair’s experiences gives insight to racism that existed in the 80’s that still reflects today, even if lessened. These factors, in addition to other characters that people can relate to, show that this series includes representation that reaches across generations.

Ultimately, whether or not you consider the show overrated depends on your personal opinions. However, the depiction of well written characters that people can relate to, nostalgia, and its blend of suspense and romance, makes its appeal hard to deny.

Activities around PHS

Published

on

Here around Pittsburg High we always have many activities that build community, friendships, and sets a perfect vibe. You might be wondering what makes PHS different from other schools when it comes to activities. Our events at Phs are like no other with our multi culture community every event is popping. We have very different and much more activities throughout the year unlike many other local schools.

Some events Phs hosts that I have never seen before are events like our water fight at the beginning of the school year and our freshman bbq tailgate party featuring free hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, prizes, games, and much more. These events are very good community building experiences especially for the freshmen that are new to the school. Our school is also hosting a Dia De Los Muertos celebration featuring food and activities that are all Dia De Los Muertos themed or related. There will also be folklorico groups from Phs and groups from the community dancing. Of course we have football games just like any other high school but our games are like no other school’s games that i’ve been to. Our student section is always lit with much pride. Don’t forget we have also one of the best award winning marching bands around. The half time performance is always very entertaining and amusing. Our band plays popular songs for example “tv off” by kendrick lamar and “I got 5 on it” by the luniz our band always puts on a wonderful show every game. We also have food vendors that no other schools have such as skiploni’s pizza and pnb smash burger that serve delicious food. The environment at every single Phs event is always welcoming, eventful, and most importantly fun and community building.
