Pittsburg high school’s tennis team has always been known for its big team and as of the ‘25-’26 team there is a record number of 85 girls all led by coach Thomas ARBUCKLE & assistant coach rio. in order to find out how this team manages a normal practice day we asked for a rundown of what an average practice day for the team looks like. Their practice starts at 4pm on the dot. They start off practice with a few warm up EXERCISES, all in rows of 9, each row is assigned a group of girls and a captain which will lead a portion of the warm ups. after warm ups depending on if they had a game the day prior, they do a debrief on how their matches went the day before. After warm ups or debriefs the girls will do things like ladder matches, practicing ground strokes or serves, hitting on a ball machine, or even playing games! Since there are numerous girls and a limited amount of courts, multiple girls practice on one court, ensuring everyone play time. at 6 pm the girls reunite to do a cheer to signify the end of practice. now that we know how an average practice goes lets rundown how an average game day goes. game days for pitt girls tennis are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. before a match starts, varsity starters warm up on the courts to ensure they as prepared as they can be for their match. after warm ups the girls will meet up with the opposing school for introductions and cheers. then all matches begin, starting with the 6 varsity singles and 3 varsity doubles. after all varsity matches are complete jv begins to play the jv team of the opposing school and a portion of pitt’s jv doubles windup playing against each other as well. it is evident that this team is committed and all supportive of each others tennis journeys. lets continue to bring an outreach to this incredible team!
